About us.

Established in 2009

The Strategy is a component of the Commonwealth of Australia's National Primary Industries Research, Development and Extension (RD&E) Framework to encourage greater collaboration and promote continuous improvement for investment in rural RD&E.
It is guided by a Steering Committee comprising representatives of Rural Research and Development Corporations, Universities and Governments.
The Strategy is Chaired by Professor Alan Tilbrook (Queensland Alliance for Agriculture & Food Innovation) who is also Strategy Champion together with Dr. David Beatty (Meat and Livestock Australia).

Our Role

The Strategy:
  • Enhances collaboration and consolidation of livestock welfare RD&E;
  • Provides a framework for the identification of high priority, cross-sectoral livestock welfare issues;
  • Monitors the National capability to conduct Animal Welfare RD&E in order to develop strategies to address gaps in capability;
